For this year, four-door versions of compact hit the upper level of sales in
the market and with no big deal, Toyota, dubbed as the nation's best-selling import,
has produced a four-door edition of its 4Runner. The 1989 4Runner comes in four-door
edition in two-wheel - and four-wheel - drive modes.
With the adding of the doors, the removable fiber glass top had been converted
into an integrated steel roof. 4Runner put in additional two doors, without changing
its dimension. The vehicle's wheelbase is still 103.3 inches and its overall length
is 176 inches, the width is 66.5 inches and it has curb weight of 3,735 pounds.
For this model year, Toyota 4Runner has a weight rating of 5,180 pounds and towing
capacity of 3,500 pounds. The ride is smooth with the help of an independent front
suspension which includes double wishbone, torsion bar, gas-filled shock absorbers
and stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is coupled with leaf springs with staggered
shock absorbers. The vehicle's engine, differential and fuel tank are secured
by steel skids plates.
It is powered by a V-6 engine that displaces 3 liter/181 cubic inches and it
possesses a 60-degree "V" design, belt-driven overhead cams and multi-point fuel-injection.
Also, this year's 4Runner edition is equipped with standard parts such as power
brakes and steering, variable intermittent wipers, rear window wiper and defogger,
split fold-down rear seat, tinted glass, reclining bucket seats and AM/FM stereo
with two speakers.
